Ghostdavandal Originals @Freshly Made Market, Truman Brewery, Brick Lane 2013

7th April 2013

Ghostdavandal originals were up and about at The Freshly Made Festival in Brick Lane with Marvin Hagglar, promoting the latest release from the up and coming album, "This Is Freedom"( available on Soundcloud).
The event was packed with exhibition events such as live graffiti from some of the best aerosol artists in London, music and live performances plus urban and street wear stalls exhibiting and marketing their products.  Being at Brick Lane, on a Sunday, the Truman Brewery was typically jam packed and heaving with activity by the afternoon, although it had a slow start.

We managed to mingle within the stalls and stall holders that were exhibiting and selling their products to get a feel of the event, and most exhibitors sounded uplifted about being out and about selling their products or liaising and networking with other exhibitors.

We met Natcho, an illustrator and photographer who was exhibiting at the market and she was excited about being at Freshly Made and getting a response to her product. Her illustrations are definitely striking and we loved her enthusiasm!  Amongst the exhibitors, we ran into 4649 Worldwide who seemed to be having a wicked time at the market and loved the products on display, some of the exhibitors included Funk Rush, Peace and Cookies and Big Deal Clothing. We also got chatting to GUSTO Urban Clothing and they explained their involvement in music and fashion, not forgetting Seymore Greene Apparel (loving the Snapbacks range) and the boys from Dictate Clothing.

We also met the legendary Aztec, who we interviewed about graffiti lifestyle, Tom Ryall and a load of artists that were doing their thing outside or jus mingling within the crowd! The music stall, pumpin out fresh organic beats courtesy of DJ Shep and DJ Ivan of Holdin'Court, held memorable performances from Oliver Sudden, Cracker Jon and Marvin Hagglar in front of a humbling crowd that seemed to respond to the emcees performances.

Ghostdavandal Originals Presents Lemon Pop Workshops : Learning Through Customisation

Lemon Pop Workshops
Presented by Ghostdavandal Originals

Ghostdavandal Originals presented its first youth workshop in Northampton, on the 2nd of April involving creative activities.  The event was attended by 24-30 kids aged between 3 to 13 years of age, although the event was catered for kids from 5 years onwards, younger kids were more than welcome as long as they were accompanied by a parent to assist in some of the activities.

The event was full of idea generation activities such as colouring and doodling, hand eye coordination tasks such as beading and disciplinary skills in canvas painting and T-shirt making! The room was buzzing with activity and noise as the kids made their own T-shirts by designing their own elements to be heat pressed onto an arrangement they felt suited them best.

Activities such as Beading started off being a girl-only activity until the boys joined in and started creating their own necklaces and bracelets which was fantastic to see them indulge in activities they probably never done before or even considered.

When it came to T-shirt designing and laying out, they became experts with each participant choosing their own style, colours and arrangement without the help of any parent to create a masterpiece that they all were proud off, and so they were, as they wore their T-shirts immediately they were dry.

Ghostdavandal Sketchbook 2005-8: A resource of ideas and development

Ghostdavandal are all about imagination and creativity...Keeping a sketchbook has enabled us to develop our design skills and keeping a trail of work enables us to keep track of our development stages and helps us to improve our work and that in turn helps us to deliver for our clients.

http://ghostdavandal.uberflip.com/issue/87138/0

1. A design trail begins with research: which might be a collection of prints, torn paper, wood, bark etc...anything that helps understand the are that is being researched.
2. Development is easier to understand and tracking the development enables us to clearly make adjustments.
3. Experiment, experiment, experiment...simple...each development stage enables the chance to test, try and change features of the project before even thinking about the final.
4. BE ORIGINAL...this is the only place that lets you become who you want to be...This is a place for inspiration and letting your inspiration grow into the craziest doodles and letting your imagination blossom...dont be shy...go wild!!
4. Finally...documenting, commenting and criticising your own work before it gets to the client / printing etc,  is beneficial in REVISING the work and making sure all angles have been explored.

Im sure the client will feel appreciated knowing that you have explored all possible angles that are catered for them personally.
Keep sketching and remember...

BE ORIGINAL
